It's overdone. Someone has put an ls1 into everything. If NASA ever sells off the space shuttles, some redneck will replace the rocket motor with an ls1.

The problem with a 4BT is that one in decent condition, without a transmission, is upwards of $3,000. And then you have to buy a transmission that fits, or buy an adapter plate. And then rebuild your front suspension, since the 4BT weighs over 700lb, which is almost twice what the LS-variant weighs. That's pretty significant for smaller, older vehicles with already-questionable ride quality and braking abilities.
A 4.8 is dimensionally the same as a 5.3. Which is basically the same as an LS1, or an LS3, or an LS4, or an LS6, or an LS7. A 5.3 is just a 4.8 with a 9mm-longer stroke (that's what she said) so it might rev a tiny bit higher. Externally they're the same, but you can usually find them cheaper.
It's a dirt-cheap way to get as near as matters 300hp, 300 torques, and stellar fuel economy and driveability with modern diagnostics.

Oh, and research the motors you look into (the RPO codes are usually on a sticker in the glove box) because only some of them have "active fuel management" (aka cylinder deactivation) and variable valve timing, which you definitely DO want.

LS motors were a clean-slate design and as such are modern and better in every quantifiable way.

The 4.8 might actually fit. My Jeep has a 250 cubic inch 6-cyl engine in it right now.

Got the Jeep titled today. I was going to do it earlier, but there was a ton of snowfall and I didn't get to work for a week. Wound up using the money to pay bills.

As for getting it drivable, wow is this thing an electrical nightmare! Got the parking lights working, but not the headlights, hazard lights or the strobe light.
